Catholic Bible Dictionary

The Catholic bible dictionary is a huge book! Anything that has to do with the bible is going to be in this book. It has more than five thousand entries in it and is definitely full of some great information. Is it a must-have book? I'm not sure about that. It's a really cool book to have but unless you are going to use this as you read the bible to look up words such as "blood" to learn about it's meaning in the bible and its connections between old and new, etc.
That being said, lets look at an example. For the entry under Eucharist, you get the full meaning with an excerpt from the catechism. It's four and a half pages discussing from the last supper to transubstantiation to the sacrament. Throughout the entry, it's pulling information from bible passages and the catechism.
I don't see this being a book I will use everyday and possibly not even a necessary book but when you come along a topic or word in the bible this could be a great resource to go to not only to understand what it is but to see how it applies and connects to the rest of the bible. It includes people, themes, and even words not mentioned in the bible but implied such as Purgatory (where he discusses what bible passages apply to the term). It discusses historical characters and places such as Persia. So anything discussed in the bible or that has to do with the historical setting or time is covered in this dictionary.
Blogging for Books provided this book to me for free in exchange for an honest review
