Book Review: St. Peter's Bones

This book captures your attention right from the beginning. Alternating with the story of Saint Peter and the story of the excavation in Rome in the 1940's. Reading about Saint Peter is not only an interesting side to the archeology dig but also keeps you in suspense as you get further and further into the dig and what they are discovering comes out in small snippets you are reading along the read. 

Craughwell also includes other bits of history such as Constantine's conversion and it's physical affect on the Church in Rome. He ties this in because Constantine constructed the basilica that would be built over Saint Peter's tomb. He includes many descriptions of how these previous buildings looked thousands of years ago and you almost wish he had included some kind of illustration to get a more visual idea of it. 

As someone who loves history, especially Catholic history, I couldn't put this book down. He even addresses the critics responses to the excavation findings and responds to them which I found added even more to the book. Overall it was an easy read and fascinating from start to ending. If you've ever wondered about Saint Peter's bones, this book does a great job covering it and including all background information that pertains.
